Fluoridation to be debated
The pros and cons of fluoridated water supply will be open, for debate by Riccarton residents next month. A public meeting to be held on August 11 will be ad-i dressed by'speakers from the Dental Association and the Pure Water Association. Riccarton residents and ratepayers will be able to vote on fluoridation ' in a referendum at this year’s local body election. - f • • This would be an important expression of residents’ opinion on fluoridation for the I
incoming council, said the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr R. W. J. Harrington) last evening. The speakers would answer questions from the meeting and would enable the public to make a reasonable judgment of the value or otherwise of a fluoridated water supply, he said. Mr Harrington said he intended to see that the meeting was v not stacked with people from either side. There would be no “strong-arm” tactics, he said.
