Click couple delayed in Iran
A Christchurch couple may have been delaj'ed in Iran by the Iranian Government’s clamp on all movements by people in and'out of the country last week. Mr George Glausiuss and Mrs Glausiuss left Christchurch a fortnight ago. They were to obtain visas from the Iranian embassy in Canberra, then fly to Hong Kong to join an Air France airliner to Teheran.
Their son, Mr Gilbert Glausiuss, said he had expected to hear from his parents by telephone from Italy on Sunday, but there was no telephone call. ,He hopes they will call him today. The ’family own the firm of G. Glausiuss Company, which Mr Glausiuss jun. says is the biggest importer of genuine Persian carpets in New Zealand. The father and son alternate on visits to Iran to buy carpets; Mr Glausiuss jun. made the last visit, in February.
The Iranian Government stopped people leaving and entering the country after it discovered what it said were plans -by hundreds of Iranians to stage a coup d’etat. Teheran’s airport and border exits were sealed to prevent the. alleged plotters from escaping, but it is uncertain for how long. If the original announcement of a 48-hour shut-down was carried out, the airport should have been open on Friday.
