Thefts from cars at ski-fields
Greymouth reporter
Five cars at the Temple Basin ski-field were broken into during the week-end. One car owner reported to the police in Greymouth yesterday that a quarterlight window had been broken, the car door unlocked, and a radio-cassette stereo set, valued about $3OO, ripped out and stolen. The motorist said that four other cars were broken into while the occupants were ski-ing. It is believed in Greymouth, that the other motorists would have reported their respective losses to the police in Christchurch. Senior-Sergeant B. J. White, of the .Greymouth police, said that where possible people should not leave cars unattended in remote areas.
The police said they believed that other cars had been broken into at the week-end at Craigieburn and said they were concerned about what was becoming an annual event.
The Greymouth police are also investigating the burglary of the premises of D. W. Smith Radio and Television, Ltd, in Mackay Street during the week-end. Electrical goods valued at $9OB were taken.
