Access to glacier
Reconstruction work on the Franz Josef Glacier access road will be complete by the start of the summer season, the Westland National Park Board hopes. The National Roads Board is spending $60,000 to restore access to the upper car-park; that part of the road was badly damaged in storms last November. The park board’s chairman (Mr C. S. Christie) said the work was “well in hand” and would be complete before the summer provided there were no undue delays caused by bad weather or non-availability of contractors’ trucks or heavy machinery. .
