Barrier to trade
A study of non-tarriff barriers to equal trading opportunity in New Zealand and Australian manufacturing sectors is being made by Victoria University’s business administration department. The survey is planned in. conjunction with the Manufacturers’ Federation and the Confederation of Australian Industries. Two Victoria University lecturers, Messrs Geoffrey Durden and Simon Harris, will focus on barriers to the free movement of goods and resources between the two countries. Mr Harris says that the project will concentrate on the price-cost problem of a limited range of industry groupings, that is. those with past or present significance in trade between the countries which make a 1 per cent or
greater contribution to the trade flow either way. The planned survey arises from wishes for closer economic relationships reflected in the March, 1980, communique when the Prime Ministers of the two countries announced. their joint commitment to closer relationships based on the freest possible movement of goods and the efficient allocation of resources, Mr Harris says.
