Plea for Sunday advertising

PA Wellington “Radio Windy” owner Capital City Radio, Ltd, has traded in “good shape” in the first three months of the current year, the chairman (Mr Colin Gibbs) told shareholders. He told the annual general meeting — which was attended by only two outside shareholders — that results to date had been satisfactory and the company was confident that it could maintain its

financial position and its place in terms of industry share. Mr -Gibbs made a strong plea at the meeting for the introduction of Sunday advertising on radio. He said there was “no justification” for the current restrictions on Sunday advertising and suggested that it would be only a healthy move but “commercially relevant.” An application for Sunday advertising has been made to

the Broadcasting Tribunal and Tribunal’s decision ij expected shortly. Mr Gibbs noted that people only saw the radio stations desire extra advertising revenue when suggestions for Sunday advertising were mooted.

But is was forgotten that stations had no income on Sundays and therefore the costs involved were a drain on the reSt of the week’s revenue.
