Essex Hospital closing
Sir, — It was more than 17 years ago that my younger son was born at Essex Hospital. But the relaxed atmosphere remains clearly in my mind. The 10 days I spent there were unhurried and relatively unregimerited. I recuperated with seven to eight hours undisturbed sleep each night. Compare this with the four hours’ broken sleep and constant programme when I had my first son in a general hospital, and give me the healing serenity of Essex any time. Tranquillity leads to confidence and relaxation, but pressurised clinical schedules bring apprehension and tension, for mother and consequently the baby. — Yours, etc..
