Petition on flogging
PA Wellington People convicted of offences such as sexual assaults on children should be flogged, according to Mr John Freeman Hunt, of Auckland, and 700 others, who have petitioned Parliament to introduce corporal punishment for certain crimes. The petition, which has been presented, also seeks flogging for criminal rape, robbery with violence, and assaults on policemen. “Vicious offenders” using assault weapons such as glass bottles should also be flogged, according to the petitioners.
