Gasworks explanation
Christchurch gas consumers will receive a brochure explaining the reasons for the closing of the Moorhouse Avenue gasworks. The brochure has been prepared by the Christchurch Gas, Coal and Coke Company, Ltd, to assure consumers that the closing in 1982 has been forced on the company, according to the chairman (Mr H. W. Revell). • ■ “It needs to be said that the board of the company regards the closing as something forced on the company
by decisions in other places and mostly by the Government,” Mr Revell said.
The company intended to do its utmost to protect the interests of consumers and the needs of the community, as long as it could do so without failure, he said. Questions about compensation would be dealt with in a subsequent brochure, which would be sent out wjth consumer accounts. Mr Revell said consumers who had questions about compensation could telephone the company on 795931.
