Threat to kill Carter
NZPA Dallas An extensive manhunt for a self-described assassin who claims he has been ordered to kill President Carter has uncovered no new clues, authorities said yesterday. The man told witnesses last month that he was a Palestine Liberation Organisation member and had assassinated more than 100 people.
He also claimed he was under orders to kill President. Carter or Senator Edward Kennedy or whoever is elected President.
Sergeant John Martinez of Dallas Police said the ■ man remained at large and was “considered to be armed and dangerous.”
A Secret Service affidavit said the man took witnesses to an Irving, Texas, apartment where he showed them a cache of weapons and a poster of Mr Carter with a bull’s eye drawn on the face.
President- Carter will make a campaign appearance in Dallas on July 21. The witnesses said the man boasted that he had shot dead two Lebanese students in October, 1978, because they were “causing trouble” for the P.L.O.
The police called the incident a “gangland slaying.”
