Table tennis win
The Canterbury table tennis team’s winning margin was almost identical with that which won the corresponding fixture last vear. when on Saturday it beat Hutt Valiev. 21-9, for the Brightwell Trophy in Christchurch.
Last year, Canterbury won, 20-8, but went one better this time. The men beat Hutt Valley, 11-1, the women won 8-4, and the mixed doubles were shared, 2-2. Results:— MEN Singles.—S. Cairns beat H. Rid ley 21-16. 21-23. 21-19; beat T Hawes 21-13, 18-21. 21-13; M. Burrowes beat Hawkes 21-8, 21-9; beat Ridley 21-7, 21-7; M. Hamel beat J. Taylor 22-20, 21-17; beat S. Edmonds 22-20, 21-18; S. Armstrong beat Edmonds, 21-11, 21-14; beat Taylor, 26-21, 21-18. Doubles. — Armstrong and Cairns beat Edmonds and Taylor. 21-23, 21-12, 21-19; lost to Ridley and Hawkes, 17-21, 20-22; Hamel and Burrowes beat Ridley
and Hawkes. 21-13, 20-22. 21-15; beat Edmonds and Taylor. 21-18, 24-22.
Singles.—M. Van der Aa lost to K. Phillips, 18-21. 13-21; lost to W Cuthbert, 17-21. 10-21: T. May beat Cuthbert, 21-18. 18-21, 23-21; lost to Phillips, 21-23, 17-21: P. Shadbolt beat T. Bargh, 21-15, 21-14; lost to R. Lee. 18-21, 19-21; J. Morris beat Lee. 21-9, 21-15: beat Bargh, 21-12, 22-20.
