Bid to end pilots’ row

NZPA Melbourne The future of Australia’s airline services hinges, on top-level talks today in Canberra between the Federal Government and. commercial pilots. • . »

Domestic and overseas air services face further industrial action by Australia’s 2800 airline pilots, with the possibility of a national shutdown, unless

today’s talks settle a row about pilot licence renewal fees.

The Transport Minister (Mr Ralph Hunt) will today meet senior officials of the Australian Federation of Air Pilots in a bid to settle the smouldering dispute and avert possible air chaos.

The Pilots’ Federation officials warned yesterday that the dispute would es-

calate unless the question of pilot licence renewal fees is settled satisfactorily in the talks. The pilots dropped flight bans on Federal Cabinet Ministers and aircraft landing in Canberra on Friday to allow today’s talks to go ahead but the federation’s manager, Mr L. Coysh, said “things will get worse” unless Mr Hunt agreed to drop the licence renewal charges.
