Govt help for forum women
PA Wellington The Government will help five women with their fares to attend a forum in Copenhagen this month in conjunction with the United Nations Decade for Women conference. Four women had so far accepted the assistance, said the Minister of Justice and spokesman on women’s affairs (Mr McLay). They were: Mrs Joan Bielby. of Auckland, vice-president of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs and former national president of the Federation of Business and Professional Women. Mrs Danna Giendining, of Martinborough, national co-ordinator of the Women’s Electoral Lobby and a member of the National Advisory’ Council on the Employment of Women.
Mrs Paddy Walker, of Auckland, national President of Pacifica (also in» vited to present a paper to the forum on migration in the Pacific). Mrs Patricia Byrne, of Tawa, national secretary for the Society’ for the Protection of the Unborn Child and former branch president of the Catholic Women’s League.
Mr McLay said he believed that at least five more women would attend the forum as non-govern-mental delegates. As well, an official deputation, led by the former member of Parliament for Lyttelton, Miss Colleen Dewe, would attend the conference proper. “Thus it is likely that New Zealand will be represented at the Copenhagen conference and forum at an official and unofficial level by’ up to 16 tirrwMan ’* the Xlinictpr coir!
