N.Z. title to O’Brien
Sean O’Brien (Burnside) won the boys’ under-13 title in the New Zealand under-age squash championships held at the Remuera and College Rifles club.
O’Brien beat R. Clark (College Rifles) in a five-game final, 9-3. 9-7, 4-9, 6-9, 9-4. Two other players from the province made the finals. Mark Crosbie (Burnside) was beaten in straight'games, 6-9, 6-9, 8-10, by Hugh Leabourne (Panmure) i nthe boys’ under--17 section and Sheryll Havill (Westport) lost to A. Bennett (Tauranga), 3-9, 3-9, 2-9, in the under-15 girls’ final. Winning plate finalists were
John Tulloch (Christchurch), boys’ under-19 special plate; Andrew Smith (Burnside), boys’ undef-17 special plate; Steven Wren (Sumner), boys’ under-15 special plate; Michael Allred (Burnside), boys’ under-15 special plate; Julie Quinn (Bumside), girls’ under-19 consolation plate; Christine Conaghan (Burnside), girls’ under-17 consolation plate.
