Lottery profits $11M
PA Wellington New Zealanders spent almost 554 million last year on State-run Golden Kiwi lotteries, according to the Lottery Board’s annual report tabled in Parliament this week. But it was not all money down the drain — the board paid back S3l million in prizes. After expenses associated with running the lotteries and Government duty had been deducted. the board was left with SU million profit,
which was distributed to organisations and charities. One of the biggest beneficiaries was the Local Authorities Community Facilities Fund, which received a grant of $1.5 mil’ lion. The Community Development Fund received $1.2 million.
The remaining profits were distributed among groups connected with the welfare of the aged, welfare services, medical and scientific research, the arts, sport, and the Film Commission.
