Wall Street last week
Share prices see-sawed on Wall Street last week. For a moment it looked as if the Dow Jones index might break the 900-barrier, but it fell back on three successive days. However, it closed at 891-13 —for a gain of 2.22 points on the week. That left traders watching for signs of how quickly it might be able to recover from the setback and launch a new run at that roundnumber milepost. In the economic news, New York’s Citibank lowered its Prime lending rate from 111 to 11| per cent. . The market’s strength of late has been attributed to a flow into stocks of money previously stockpiled in interest-bearing investments. • Closing prices on Friday; of a selection of shares; were:—
