Smithfield market
Over all. there was a slight weakening in New Zealand lamb prices last week in the United Kingdom, particularly for bulk sales, reports the New Zealand Meat Producers* Board in its weekly survey. However, the downward movement was confined to heavier weight range lambs, including PM and PX graded lambs. Prices for PSs and YLs increased slightly and on an ex-ship basis, the differential between PLs and much as 5.5 p per lb. On PMs has increased to as Smithfield. PLs were quoted at 61 -62 p per lb, Ip higher, and PMs remain unchanged at 57-59 p per lb. BEEF The United States beef.
market had a firmer tone last week. Both domestic and imported manufacturing type beef prices rose on the previous week. New Zealand cow beef prices averaged U9United States cents per lb, a rise of 4c on the previous week. MUTTON
The Japanese market was again relatively quiet last week, although sales in excess of 500 tonnes of New Zealand MLl' and MM carcases for July through to September shipment were reported. New Zealand offers are generally confined: at present to small parcels wth MLI and MX carcases, quoted at 66.5 — 67.0 United States cents per lb for September shipment.
