U.N.E.S.C.O.
delegates’ interviews Sir, — To ban interviews with visitors implies fear of what they may say. When the interview occurs it contains the typical, self-con' tradictory, totalitarian claptrap: "Troops withdrawn from Afghanistan were not being replaced now that internal resistance was minimal”; yet “there is no resistance in Afghanistan” and “internal opposition was . . .
about- 10,000 reactionaries, which every country has” and “Soviet troops were not in Afghanistan to fight these groups.” “Soviet troops fight imperialist guerrillas, not reactionaries”; yet “Russian help was needed by a victorious Afghanistan force.” Victorious forces never need help from other forces. The Ministry ,of Foreign Affairs and/or its bosses must fear either that the reading and listening public cannot see communist propaganda for what it is, or that the communists would give us yet another example on which to sharpen our minds against all propaganda. — Yours, etc., H. C. BREWERTON. July 10, 1980.
