Fuel cost forces out Fiji stop
PA Washington The high cost of aviation fuel is the reason Pan-American will stop using Fiji as a transit point on its flights from September 2, an .airline spokesman has r 1. He said that aviation fuel, which cost 48 United States cents a gallon in Fiji in December 1978, now cost SUSI.4I there. “This compares with the average 81c a gallon we pay in the United States.” The spokesman said that Fiji would still be served by Air New Zep’'r 1 and Continental Airlines on > their North America-South > Pacific services. The move would offer passengers a better service between California and Australia, with only one stop, at Honolulu. Pan-American’s schedule to New Zealand will remain two flights daily between Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Auckland, except for Mondays and Saturdays, and a twice weekly non-stop flight between Los Angeles and Auckland.
