Babies on lambskins worry

PA Wellington The Federation of New Zealand Parents’ Centres has said that it was concerned that some parents were using incorrectly tanned lambskins for babies to sleep on. The federation said that some parents were using lambskins meant for floor rugs. Because these were not intended for this purpose, there was a possibility that babies could pull out tufts of wool and swallow them. "A year or so ago there was a reported case of a child’s suffering from bezoars, or furball in its stomach, from sucking a lambskin rug,” the federation said. It was important that when parents bought a lambskin for their baby it was one intended for infant use, properly tanned to ensure that the fibres stayed secure, even after, prolonged use and washing.
