‘Newsweek’ report denied
The Ministry of Defence
has denied a report in “Newsweek” magazine that Britain has paratroopers waiting in New Zealand to fly to the New Hebrides. “There is absolutely ho staging of British troops in New Zealand, nor was there a formal approach for this to happen from the British,” said a Defence public relations spokesman, Lieutenant R. Foley. Britain has sent 200 Royal Marines to the New Hebrides as a result of the rebellion on the northern island of Espiritu Santo.
