Fiji expects good year

Fiji’s economy did better’ last year than in 1978 and another good year was forecast by the central monetary authority in its 1979 annual report. ; “Despite an economic slowdown and uncertainties in the international and fori eign exchange and capital markets, the Fiji economy performed remarkably 'well last year,” the report said. Fiji’s gross domestic .product in real terms, after, allowing for inflation,. grew, by more than 6 per cent last year compared with 2.5 per cent the year before. ■ i There were record-break* ing growths in exports and imports and substantially in-, creased international, trade, j The report expressed some concern about the continuing widening deficit in. the .balance of payments, and the fact that inflation was at 7.7 per cent last year compared with 6.1 per cent in 1978.,
