Three more sent off
Three loose fonvards were ordered off in senior rugby matches at Lancaster Park on Saturday, bringing to seven the number sent from the field in the last two rounds of matches.
The main game on the oval was only 2min old when the referee, Mr Glyn
Braithwaite, told the Shirley No 8, Robert Hammersley, that his football was over for the afternoon. This followed an incident in midfield which led to a New Brighton player being treated for an injury. Hammersley, in striving for the ball, appeared to trample the other man.
Soon after, on the south ground, Mr Alan Taylor dispatched Barry White (Suburbs) and John Phillips Linwood) for fighting. Only one senior player was ordered off in the first eight rounds of this season’s competition.
