Thomson to ride top filly
PA New Plymouth The. former New Zealand jockey, Brent Thomson, has ■been engaged to ride the brilliant Kaponga filly CoOber’s Queen when she has her first Australian start at Bendigo, on June 16. The filly’s part-owner and trainer, Mr Peter Melville, said yesterday that the Victorian Racing Club, which has helped arrange a programme for the filly, had made the engagement. Coober’s Queen is to contest the heats and hopefully the .final of a series for three-year-old fillies. Mr Melville 1 plans to transport Coober’s Queen to Auckland early next week. From there she will fly to Melbourne via Sydney on Wednesday. Accompanying Mr Melville on the trip will be the Foxton jockey, K. Robinson, who rode the filly in many of her important engagement over the last two seasons. Mr Melville said Robinson would ride Coober’s Queen in subsequent races in the Melbourne area. The V.R.C. is also trying to arrange him other rides.
