Shirty surprise
One prospective Christchurch member of the Olympic Games team has had a bomb scare, and called in police explosives experts. Wayne Thorpe, who was to have been mechanic for the cycling team, had “a funny parcel” arrive at his home. “So I got in the bomb people, as we were told to do. It did seem rather odd, because the consignment note said the parcel con-
tained shirts, yet it was marked fragile, and, . the Petone firm mentioned was a new one on me, “So they blew it open —the real thing, just like on telly,” said Mr Thorpe. There, intact after the blast, were three Olympic issue shirts. “They weren’t even damaged, just rather dirty after the explosion,” said fvir Thorpe, who is a cycle .retailer.
