N.Z. watch for escaped woman
The New Zealand police) have been asked to keep ah look-out for the Christchurch! woman who escaped on Sun-! day from the Sydney jail. where she was serving a life sentence for murder; Judith Anne Garrett, now aged 22, was convicted in 1975 for what a .judge des- 1 cribed as. the “callous and inhuman killing” of an assistant in a Kings Cross; jewellery store. • ■/•'■■!. , Garrett, who is regarded by the Australian police as extremely dangerous, has not been seen since she scaled two fences around the Mulawa Training and Detention Centre for Women and was
(driven away by accomplices ! waiting in a car! I Sydney detectives have not I discounted the possibility that she might try to return home, and have asked the New Zealand police to keep a close watch. The Australian police said Garrett had been cut as she climbed the prison fences. Garrett was aged 17, and recently arrived from New Zealand, when she and a; friend, Carol Paintin, also; from ChHstchurch, shot and beat a woman shop assistant to death during a robbery of the Little Gem jewellery store in Kings Cross.
