Twizel houses for tender
The Ministry of Works and Development will sell 20 of its houses at Twizel. The Twizel Project engineer, Mr S. M. J. Smith said the houses had become surplus to requirements and would be put up for tender to establish a pricing formula for future sales. The Twizel formation officer, Mr R. Ramsey, said that the sale should generate much interest because ther had been many inquiries from round New Zealand for the houses. The only previous sales had been of houses damaged by fire.
Of the 20 houses, 19 were three-bedroomed ones of 66 sq. m and one a four-bedroomed house of 76 sq m. With the exception of the larger houses, all would be sold complete with garages. The houses up for tender were on the outskirts of the town in streets which were slowly being vacated either through the residents leaving or shifting to other houses closer to the town centre. The population at Twizel had reached a peak in 1979 and had declined gradually since then.
