Suspicious sauna

PA ' Wellington A 15-year-old schoolboy’s sixth trip to a Wellington sauna parlour was too much for the staff. They wanted to know where the youth got his bank credit card and took their suspicions to the bank.

The police investigated and found the youth had stolen the card from his father and gone on a spending spree round Wellington. His father was unaware of the loss of his card. Detective Chief In-

spector P. McE. Faulkner said the youth had committed about 60 offences involving the stolen credit card in a short period of time. But most retailers seemed to have been unworried by their client’s youth. The sauna parlour was one of the few places which had checked ownership of the card, he said.

Mr Faulkner said the police were worried by increasing credit card offences. Payment on credit cards is guaranteed, unlike stolen cheques, so that retailers have nothing to lose by accepting them.
