Pacific rocket test
PA Wellington China has told the New Zealand Government that it proposes to' test-launch a delivery' rocket into the sea in the South Pacific. The Prime Minister (Mr 1 Muldoon) said yesterday: “This is a very important development, not only because it affects our own region, but because of its wider implications. “We understand the circumstances in which
China has felt it necessary to increase its militarycapability, including the development of long-range missile technology. “At the same time, the Government can only express its concern about the continuing pace of the arms race among the Great Powers and deplore the situation which leads to increasing competition in the development of strategic weapons capacity.”
