I The trulv international flavour; lof the port of Lyttelton and the iimportance of its deep-draught] harbour was emphasised yester-, I day by the harbourmaster, Capt. J.’A. Barbour. : He told a meeting of the Lyt-, telton Harbour Board that, dur-; ing the month of April, 12 vessels: from overseas made Lyttelton; their first port of call and six, sailed direct from Lyttelton to : overseas ports. Among the arrivals direct, from overseas were the tankers. Mvkonos. from Bahrain, and the. Messiniaki, Ormi and Etrema J both from Singapore. Other vessels included the ACT tl from New York, the Tekoa from Na-: hodka U.S.S.R., the Shima Maru’ from Kure. Japan, the Wanderer from Christmas Island, the Hid-; lefjord from Iran, the NecUlovd Waalekerk from Singapore, the Kenknn Marti from Yokohama, tile Southland Star from Suva,; and the new Fua Kavenga from Nuku’alofa, Tonga. Vessels leaving direct for over-. seas ports were the Lake Eyre, Strathmore, and ACT 2. which sailed for. Australian ports, plus, the Townsville Star to the U.S.-' S.R., the Austral Moon to : Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A., and j the Aleksander Zawadski, which; sailed from Lyttelton direct to; Apia. ; ARRIVALS i Coastal Trader (7.8 a.m.), 2500,1 Dunedin IS.C.N.ZJ. ■ Union Hobart (8.30 a.m.), 4637, Wellington (U.S.S.).
