Typhoid contained

PA Auckland There is “virtually no danger” that an outbreak of typhoid in west Auckland will spread to other areas or other people, says Auckland’s Medical Officer of Health (Dr J. Stevenson). Six people already have the disease and a baby has died, but the situation is under control and the typhoid contained, according to Dr Stevenson. “The risk of other people’s getting it is nil unless they have actually eaten food that a person with typhoid had handled,” he said. The typhoid was located in a group of people who were either close friends or related. It is believed that one person had contracted the fever while in Fiji. Most of the people affected are Pacific Islanders.
