Sly Belle, Hands Down for Addington double

By

G. K. YULE

Sly Belle and Hands Down 1 will probably provide the favourite T.A.B, double com-, mnation at the Metropolitan ■ Club’s meeting at : Addington Racewav tomor- ; row. . . ’ i _ Sly Belie is one of four! C 4 pacers assured of a start Lantana Lodge Ladies’ Mile, which caters for mares and fillies assessed at C2I and not faster than • C 5. No I horses pn the last-named mark are engaged. . Sly Belle was particularly | impressive last Saturday > when she won the Free Holmes Handicap in 3min 25.8 sec for the 2600 m from a stand. Unless Scotch Spot re-enters the field she will start from No. 5 at the awkward mile point, but she should not be forced over i too much extra ground before securing a reasonable position. The daughter of Sly Yan,kee and Beau Belle looks capable of a merry mile and it will be surprising if she fails to make a bold showing. D’Or Favori did well when ■third to Sly Belle and Wairenga last Saturday as she started from 10m and had to work hard to be in a challenging position. She will start from the second line, which has not proved difficult to overcome in mile races on the course. She: seems to be at the improving stage and looks a great prospect.

Last Chance was far from disgraced when she drifted to fifth behind Sly Belle last week after attempting to lead for the last 1200 m. She comes in on the front this time and should add interest to the finish.

Armbro Play and Bonnie Lass, the only three-year-olds in the. field, have done well in races for their own sex. Bonnie Lass looks the better prospect this time after her bold finish for second to Armalight last Saturday.

Eden’s Joy, a big disappointment last week, Koau Gold and Rosemarie Bromac should all. be capable of re-

spectable times over one mile and they add to the puzzle of picking the winner.

Hands Down has made splendid progress in recent months, with wins at Addington and Ashburton to his credit at his last two starts. He looks the logical winner of the 100 Pipers Handicap, but can expect spirited opposition from Superior Chance and Genesis. RACE 7 T.A.B. Well beaten when fourth at the end of a fastrun 3200 m at Ashburton on April 26. Better placed in this field and must be hard to beat. W. Denton 7 1512 GENESIS (7) It (4 h Out to Win—Shelanne*. First start since December 29. One of the more talented horses of his age and will be a chance in spite of recent racing. J. Smolensk! 8 5203 TIMELY ROBIN (8) It (5 It Timely Knight—Robin’s Sister). Useful third to Philippa Frost on April 15 at latest start. Speedy type capable of a forward showing. M. de Filippi 9 0417 WINNING LASS (9) It 14 m Out to Win—Foaming Lass). Failed on April 25 at Addington, but is a dour stayer well capable of a bold bid in this type of race. R. Butt 10 0086 GOOD TOO (10) It (5 g Lordship—Mini Model). Improvement on latest showings would be necessary for him to be much of a threat. A. Hunter 11 04 00 PORT VIEW (11) It |7 m Tarport Coulter-Light View). Out of form. Others preferred. D.
