‘Pioneer spirit’ needed
New Zealand’s future will be "remarkable” if it can rediscover its pioneering spirit and self-con-fidence, according to a special supplement of ‘.‘New Zealand News U.K.” The supplement, which was designed for New Zealand “exiles and would-be migrants,” was compiled by Colonel J. I. M. Smail, the proprietor of “New Zealand News U.K.” Colonel Smail put the supplement togehter after a recent five-week visit to New Zealand. The 20-page supplement includes articles on politics, the economy, manpower, education and tourism. An article about Christchurch and interviews with Sir John Marshall and Sir Frank Holmes are also included. Colonel Smail, who was born in Christchurch, said future governments would have to encourage New Zealanders overseas to return. Skilled labour would also have to be brought to New Zealand.
