Typhoid cases in Auckland
PA Auckland An outbreak of typhoid fever in Auckland has so far affected six people and may have claimed the life of a young baby. The baby died some weeks ago and the cause of death was given as gastro-enteritis. But now that other members of the baby’s family . have come down with typhoid fever doctors are reconsidering. Those affected are members of the Mormon Church and are either related or close friends. Most are Pacific Islanders. The Auckland City Council’s chief health inspector (Mr J. S. Underdown) said last evening it appeared that the fever had been contracted in Fiji by a member of the family and passed on. About six people had neeeded treatment so far.
