The elephant seal that is now a familiar feature of Christchurch waterways was a surprising sight for Mr Trevor Norton, a visitor from Hamilton. The seal’s playground on this occasion was the stretch of the Avon River between the Fitzgerald Avenue and Barbadoes Street bridges. Referred to by many as “Elizabeth,” the elephant seal has made regular appearances in the Avon and Heathcote Rivers since February.
