Charter dropped
The American Senate Intelligence Committee has abandoned efforts to get controversial charter governing American intelligence activities passed through this year. The charter, introduced in February by a Kentucky Democrat, Walter Huddleston, after three years’ work, would have .required intelligence agencies to. give prior notice of covert activities to the Congressional Intelligence Committee. The Central Intelligence Agency has strongly objected to this provision.' After a closed meeting of ' the committee yesterday, Senator Huddleston said the committee; would start drafting 'a more; limited bill next week. —| Washington. 1
