Ballesteros beaten
NZPA-Reuter Valencia, Spain Eddie Polland, of Northern Ireland, blasted a last round 69 yesterday to win the $85,000 Spanish Open golf championship by five strokes from Severiano Ballesteros, of Spain, and Mark James, of Britain. Polland ended with a 12-below-par total of 276 to collect the $15,000 first prize. It was the 32-year-old Ul-
sterman’s first big win since, he won the same conn petition four years ago and he said later: “I was so; depressed at not winning I considered giving up golf last year and buying a pub, but my wife talked me out of it.” Ballesteros, the British Open and United States Masters Champion, and James both returned last rounds of 72 to collect $BOOO each.
