South Island Movement
Sir, — The South Island Movement would add to our o v e r-governed problems while Jim Gribben’s idea streamlines what we already have. Sad to say, the twoparty system hinders its use. Toeing the party line takes precedence over the public good. With all but one of the South Island cities in its pouch and Invercargill hopping in and out like a kangaroo joey, the Labour record in fighting for South Island rights is so poor, its aim to defeat National by increasing its hold is laughable. Why should the Wairarapa housewife pay less to do her cooking than one in Avon or Sydenham? Why is our inter-island transport loaded against the South? The sooner more Social Credit members are in the House, the better. — Yours* etc A. M. COATES. May 4, 1980. ;
