Services for Anzac Day
Anzac Day services will be held in Christchurch Cathedral and in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament tomorrow.
For early risers the Dawn Parade, which starts at 6.15 a.m. outside Noahs Hotel in Worcester Street will be followed by a Holy Communion sew vice in the Cathedral at 7 a.m.
The Anzac Day service will be held at 10.30 a.m. Members of the Cathedral choir, a piper, and the band of the 2nd Battalion (Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast), Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, will provide music at the service. The address . will be given by Lieutenant-Colo-nel E. N. Braggins. The Mayor of Christchurch
(Mr Hamish Hay) will read the Lesson. The Minister of Housing (Mr D. F. Quigley) will represent the Government The Dean of Chrsitchurch (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill) said he expected big attendances at both services. Representatives of almost 50 service organisations had been invited to the 10.30 a.m. service.
An Anzac Day Mass will be held in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament at 9.30 a.m. Returned servicemen and women will assemble in the grounds of Xavier College at 9 a.m. before attending the Mass. The Mass will be celebrated by the chaplain at Wigram airbase (the Rev. A. McLean).
