Amnesty fears for eight
NZPA-Reuter London Amnesty International has expressed concern about the fate of eight people prominent under the former regime of Emperor Haile Selassie, Amnesty said the eight had disappeared while in custody in Ethiopia in July, 1979, and had not been heard of since. It also identified and raised fears for the lives of five former officials of the All Ethiopian Socialist Movement which formed the political arm of the present military Government until August, 1977.
It said the movement was banned and its leaders killed or imprisoned after the movement had opposed the military rulers. A spokesman for the Lon-don-based human rights group said it had received no satisfactory reply from the present Ethiopian Government.
