Sport Convincing win to H.S.O.B.
The H. 5.0.8. rugby* machine after two false stariß already this season, came to; life long enough for a convi Being win over Merivale-Papant H in the feature game at Denton Oval last evening.
The Merivale forward pack, led by the robust John Harwood, continually tried to upset the free flowing Old Boyn style. For most of the first! half however they had to be content with watching the talented Old Boys backline take its side to a 19-3 lead at the turn-arourifi. The second half saw Old Boys falter and Merivale’s energetic forwards achieve a large degree of dominance. Ha:rwood -was well supported by Stev e Bornden at No. 8 and Tim Te Amo. Merivale was especialEy strong in the set play, continually pegging Old Boys down. For Old Boys, "Phiii Thomas controlled things abl;r enough behind the serum anti his line kicking was of a high quality. On the wings. Daryl Park and
fan Mather, while having limited opportunities to attack, excelled in their defensive roles.
Although Merivale came back in the second half, scoring 7 points to six. H.5.0.8.’s over-all lead was never really threatened. In the preceding match University B gave a solid if uninspiring display to hold a mediocre Burnside. The game was a lack-lustre affair, both sides frequently losing the advantage at critical times.
The students however, were tighter up front and their backline showed more willingness and flair to attack. Scores.—
