A.H.I. sells container firm to Dunedin
PA s .Wellington Alex Harvey Industries I has sold its container and ; glass fibre products manufacturing business, George. ■ and Ashton, Ltd as a going concern to Dunedin interests. ... The private' company' has a paid-up. capital of $300,000 and has been bought with the help of a Development Finance Corporation loan by three principal shareholders.They include Mr Alex de Boer, a former George and Ashton employee and now the managing director of the company, and Mr P. Chapman, of Fusion Certified Welders, Ltd. ; ■ The third principal shareholder Is ,i outside Dunedin and has not yet been named for . product competition reasons. About half of the 30 employees now working at George and Ashton (N.Z., 1980), Ltd, the new name of the company, took up an offer to buy shares in the business. The company will continue to make refrigerated
containers. This side of 1 the business will be expanded to include containers for the domestic market. Truck canopies, custom moulding, ana the development of glass fibre products for the domestic and export market will also be made.- •
