Selective trading in oils
; Australian oil stocks continued to rise yesterday as investors reacted to the latest oil find in the Cooper Basin, and speculation that more good news will come out of the area later in the week.
' Santos, which reported a 170-barrel flow at its jointventure Cuttapirrie No. 1 Well firmed another 12c to 810 c, its partner vamgas, finished 20c higher at a year’s high of 430 c. - Oil news proved one of the few bright spots on the industrial boards, where traders took little heart from the falling United States interest rates, which powered a sharp recovery on Wall Street. Ampol firmed 6c •to 102 c
after a rise in Ampol Exploration half-yearly profits. B.H.P. failed to move up with the other oils, and shed 5c to 1190 c. Western Mining, which has a 37 per cent stake in Cuttapirrie, drifted in the easier metals sector, and finished 3c down at 380 c.
