New peak for index
The N.Z.U.C. index rose 1.21 points to a new peak for the year of 403.78 on a firm, moderately busy New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. N.Z. Insurance sold between 258 c and -65 c in light trading, with the largest parcel.going at 263 c for a lc gain. S.F.M. lost 10c to 260 c m profit-taking after announcing bonus and cash issues late last week, but Waitaki N.Z.R. was up 4c to 170 c and Allied Farmers* Co-operative 5c to 260 c.
