Stolen van used in burglary
The Hornby C. 1.8. believes that a stolen white Bedford van was used to carry off the $13,500 worth of goods stolen in a burglary of the Haywrights store at Church Corner on Sunday evening. The van, which had been stolen from the rear of a building in Hereford Street at the week-end, was found abandoned and empty in Liverpool Street, in • the inner City, on Monday. The burglars had used paint from a’ spray can to cover the firm’s name on the side of the vehicle. Detective Sergeant R. J. Woolhouse said that the police wanted to hear from anybody who might know the movements of the van, or might have seen it in the Church Corner area between 5 p.m. and midnight on Sunday. More than $7500 worth of jewellery, $5700 worth of electrical appliances, and a big quantity of clothing was taken in the burglary — the second at the store in two months.
