Power link restored
PA Wellington The inter-island electricity link is back to normal, says the general manager of the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy, Mr K. D. McCool.
Mr McCool said maintenance work at Haywards substation meant a return to the normal transfer of electrical power from the South to the North Island.
While the inter-island link was having problems, the generation at New Plymouth and Meremere had been increased to offset the loss of power. The overall water storage level dropped from 97 to 93 per cent from the nominal level with drops of 90 to 88 per cent in the North Island and 99 to 95 per cent in the South Island. .
