A GM Holden Simbird was the 500,000 th caret o be produced by General Motors’ assembly plant, a company which started : in•-■New Zealand 73 years ages- • The managing director of General Motors New Zealand, Ltd (Mr R. W. Kirkman); said that' General Motors was the first car dealer network to top half-a-million in New Zealand' car production.
The first General Motors car to drive on New Zealand roads was an imported Buick from the United States. Since then, General Motors has assembled, a number of models including Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Vauxhall. Models assembled now include Chevette, GM HoL den Sunbird, Commodore, Holden utilities, Bedford, and Isuzu. .
