Arrests after attack

PA Auckland Five persons were arrested by the Auckland police last evening and charged with assault on a girl, aged 13, who was found lying badly battered near Myers Park yesterday morning. The girl, who lives in Newmarket, was last evening reported in a serious condition in the criticalcare unit of Auckland Hos-

pital, where she was undergoing treatment for head injuries. Detective Inspector G. F. Hugglestone said she had been reported missing on Sunday. She was found lying in a car-park near the old Waitemata City Council building in Greys Avenue, bleeding from facial wounds. . She had apparently been put there by two women

who came out of the building and went off down to Queen Street. Bloodstains were found by the police in the building and there were signs that somebody had tried to wash them away. The girl was discovered soon after by workmen arriving in the area about 7.30 a.m. They immediately called an ambulance and the girl was taken to hospital.
