Pilots’ threat
PA Rotorua Airline pildts have threatened to stop all night flights into Taupo unless rotating beacons are installed by May 1. The Taupo Borough Council, as the Taupo Airport authority, says the deadline cannot be met. It was told of the threat last Friday’ in a letter from the New * Zealand Airline Pilots’ Association. The chairman of the Taupo Airport Committee (Mr W. B. Keys) said it was not possible to have the lights installed and going by May 1. Though the provision of navigational lights was a Ministry of Transport responsibility, the authority would be prepared to support the pilots’ demands. Six night flights a week would be affected by such a ban.
