Expanded log trade from Napier
The Port of Napier is looking i forward to expanded log exports to Japan because of, a new con-| tract initiated by a consortium • of companies headed by the! Hawke’s Ba v Fanners' Co-opera-' live Association, Ltd. ! According to a spokesman fori the consortium, commitments I call for the export of 30,009 cu.i metres of Pinus radiata. The. first of . three shipments are ex- 1 pected to be. loaded in early! May. ' i The buyers are established I Japanese log importers who have, dealt with Hawke’s Bav Farm-, erg in other products. As part ( of the firm’s extension of activi-; ties, it also plans to' offer a, marketing and replanting advisory service for the region. Preliminary studies have indicated that- there are substan- j tial log resources in the Hawke's Bay region in private and publicly owned woodlots. , The spokesman said that be-1 cause there was strong buyer; interest in future wood supplies, the new undertaking bad good long term prospects.
